Why I Deserve To Be In The Poker Hall Of Fame

May 24th, 2012
Written by admin

Nominations for the Poker Hall Of Fame are now taking place with the two winners to be announced at the 2012 WSOP Final Table in November of this year.

Word has it that I, Will Boyett, have been nominated for the first time since the PHOF started in 1979. Now I need your votes to win:

CLICK HERE to place your vote!

When you vote, they will ask you why you feel I am worthy. A look at my resume should give you plenty of ideas. But first, let’s go over the criteria a person needs to be inducted:

  • A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
  • Played for high stakes
  • Played consistently well, gaining respect of their peers
  • Stood the test of time
  • Or, for non players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results

I played poker successfully for 8 years as a pro before retiring. I’ve certainly played the biggest games the casino had. I’ve worked tirelessly over my long career to promote and uphold the highest ethics of poker.

In tournament play, I’ve played against many of the best players in the world. I’ve stood the test of time through all my contributions over the last 30 years. Just take a look at my resume:

1) Author of “How To Play Omaha Hi-Lo Split For Fun And Profits” first published in 1982 and an instant bestseller at all the local casinos in the Los Angeles area.
2) Appeared on the cover of Poker Digest in 2000.
3) Promoted the growth of poker tournaments on various radio shows including “Conway and Steckler Show”.
4) Pioneered the growth of poker tools by coining the term “Poker Tools” and building the first website (comeon-casino.world) dedicated to bringing these tools to the poker playing masses. Today there are many impersonators and most every poker site has a “Poker Tool” section.
5) Invented the world’s first point count system for Omaha High-Low Split in 1981 called the “Boyett Point Count System”. This count system inspired other authors to create their own versions.
6) Was the poker dealer at the final table on three episodes of the WPT as well as one episode of the PPT.
7) Inventor of Luckalyzer, the world’s first luck analyzing app that was tested and proven (at the 2010 WSOP, thanks to Nolan Dalla) to have the ability to predict the luck of any player in advance. The applications for this in the poker world are huge.
8 ) For 9 years I was the Satellite Director for the world’s largest cardroom. I was respected and admired by players for running an honest and organized event.
9) I hold the world’s record for having the most sattelite tables going at one time by one person (not counting dealers). I had 55 tables (550 players) open at once by myself. Think about it, it takes 2-3 minutes to start a table. 55 tables started = about 2 hours. Since a sattelite ends in 1 to 1.5 hours, they were ending before I was done opening. Those ending had to be paid off (another few minutes each) and restarted. It was something 550+ poker players have never seen before and probably never will again.
10) I can also be found in the WPT poker game available for Playstation II or X-Box.

I feel the above shows that I have contributed to the overall growth and success of poker. My point count system and poker websites have inspired other writers and developers. And my latest apps are already changing the way people play poker.

Thank you so much for your support, Will Boyett

More General Poker Tips

April 9th, 2012
Written by PokerGod

The experience of playing poker is, by its nature, exciting and seductive. For starters, you’re gambling for real money but there’s something about those clay poker chips that’s somehow better than money and not money at all. Moreover, if you are playing in a casino or a card club, there’s the noise of the other players not to mention slot machines — maybe there’s some live music or a sports broadcast on the PA system. It can be quite intoxicating. Of course, you might also be tempted to grab a cocktail; that can be a very literal kind of “intoxicating” that is not really very conducive to good play.

Indeed, the secret to successful poker — or any form of winnable gambling — is to not be carried away by your greed or desire for excitement. Sure, the clay poker chips being held by the other players seem enticing and so very available, but if you stay in too many hands you are more likely than not to find yourself down by a significant amount of money and tempted to lose even more as you pursue the oh-so elusive comeback. One of the best poker tools in the world is patience. You don’t go to war without the right weaponry; staying in without the right cards is the surest path to the poor house there is.

You might have noticed that many serious players bring their iPods and earbuds to the game with them. In almost any other social pursuit, this would be seen as pretty rank bad manners. In poker, however, it’s accepted because all serious players know that waiting for that right hand can be tedious business. Better to be entertained by your favorite musicians than play bad hands because you are starting to grow bored, impatient, and greedy for pretty clay poker chips. Poker is a game that rewards those with a cool head and the wisdom to wait for just the right time to strike.

Card Flips Over On The Deal

September 4th, 2011
Written by admin

A visitor to PokerTools recently asked:

“When a dealer deals a card to another player that accidently flips over. What is the ruling? Is the player dealt a new card, does he accept the card dealt, or is a new deal dealt?”

House rules will differ. If this was a private game, I would probably do a misdeal and redeal the hand.

In a licensed casino that makes money on every hand dealt, the last thing the casino wants is the hand to be redealt. Redealing slows the game down and they lose money. Instead, they usually have rules that say there is no misdeal, just fix the situation and continue on the same hand (which is quicker which increases revenue).

To fix the situation with the least minimal disruption to the hand, the following procedure is usually enforced:

Suppose everyone has received their first card. The first player to get his second card (let’s say seat 2) has it flip over on the deal. Then dealer should then continue with the deal as if the card was never shown. At the end, everyone has two cards. The same two cards they would have had anyways. The only difference is we’ve seen one of seat 2’s cards.

Now we don’t want to change the order of the flop, turn, or river, so how does Seat 2 get a replacement card to makeup for the exposed one, without changing the board to come?

Simple, you exchange the exposed card for the card on the top of the deck (the burn card).

In this manner evrything remains the same except one player has had one of his cards switched. This is the closest you can come to keeping everything the same.

Luckalyzer™ Tested And Reviewed

November 22nd, 2010
Written by holyman

Luckalyzer website claims this piece of software can actually predict a persons luck (both good and bad).

While Luckalyzer is not designed as a poker tool I can see many applications for it in the world of poker.

For example, two players go all in and there are still cards to come on the board. Since both players are all in, there is no more skill. No one can be bluffed out. All that is left is to see if the best hand holds up or not. Will the underdog get lucky if Luckalyzer predicts him to be lucky?

This is the test I decided to put Luckalyzer through. The testing ground was the 2010 WSOP Final Table. There were 9 contestants left who showed up in Las Vegas to battle it out for all the money and the title of World Champ.

At this event there would be hundreds of hands played over 14 grueling hours (total hands played until they got down to 2 players was actually 219 hands). I expected to see dozens of showdowns (actual number of showdowns seen was 30). Would the lucky players win these showdowns?

Here is Luckalyzer’s analysis of each players luck listed in order from best (top) to worst (bottom):

Of the 30 showdowns, the lucky player was the underdog in 11 of them (“underdog” means his chance of winning the hand is less than 30%). The chart below shows the complete list of 11 hands. Luckalyzer’s choice to win is circled. Those in light green signify a winning prediction, while those in light red signify a losing prediction.

If you take a look at the odds of each hand sucking out in the chart above, you will see the underdog has only a 17% chance (on average, according to the odds) of winning each hand.

Yet, because the player was lucky, he actually won 64% of the hands! Thats 4x better than the odds say that player should win!

In conclusion, Luckalyzer proved to us it really does increase your chances of sucking out if you play on lucky days!

In the world of poker, you could use this new tool to decrease the number of bad beats and increase your win rate.
